Khayelitsha wetlands rehabilitation

Khayelitsha wetland rehabilitation
Khayelitsha wetland faces significant pollution and waste removal challenges. These challenges include pollution from wastewater discharged into nearby rivers. Additionally there is ongoing spillage from blocked sewer pumps, littering and flooding due to community mining in the sandbanks along the wetland. Wetland rehabilitation in the form of dredging, wetland bank widening and removal of invasive hyacinth is proposed to solve the challenges in the Khayelitsha wetland.

CAPs

CAPs (Credits Aqua Positive), also known as water credits, are a unit that measures the positive impact of projects on water resources.

1 CAP = 1,000 m³ of water footprint saved

CAP eq, or CAP equivalents, are calculated using the ISO 14046 methodology, which adjusts the value of CAPs by considering water stress in the region.
