Naivasha Non-Revenue Water Reduction

Naivasha, a rapidly growing town along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway, lies on the shores of Lake Naivasha and is a key hub in Nakuru County. Driven by expanding floriculture, manufacturing, tourism, and geothermal energy sectors, the town faces rising demand for reliable water services. The Naivasha Water and Sanitation Company (NAIVAWASCO), the designated Water Services Provider for Naivasha Sub-County, currently records a NRW rate of 40%, exceeding the sector benchmark of 25%. In response, NAIVAWASCO launched an NRW reduction initiative to lower losses to 29%. Key interventions included network rehabilitation, meter servicing, and the relocation and replacement of meters. These efforts aim to reduce physical water losses and improve system efficiency.

CAPs (Credits Aqua Positive), also known as water credits, are a unit that measures the positive impact of projects on water resources.

1 CAP = 1,000 m³ of water footprint saved

CAP eq, or CAP equivalents, are calculated using the ISO 14046 methodology, which adjusts the value of CAPs by considering water stress in the region.
