Nakuru Non-Revenue Water Reduction

Nakuru, the fourth-largest city in Kenya, is located in the Rift Valley and serves as the capital of Nakuru County. Water and sanitation services are provided by Nakuru Water and Sanitation Company (NAWASSCO), a private utility. NAWASSCO’s non-revenue water levels stand at 31%, exceeding the sector benchmark of 25%. This has driven the company to prioritise NRW reduction, resulting in positive outcomes. A targeted NRW reduction project was implemented to address losses from a baseline of 36%. Through interventions such as leak detection, infrastructure repairs, and network optimisation, NRW was reduced to 30%.

CAPs (Credits Aqua Positive), also known as water credits, are a unit that measures the positive impact of projects on water resources.

1 CAP = 1,000 m³ of water footprint saved

CAP eq, or CAP equivalents, are calculated using the ISO 14046 methodology, which adjusts the value of CAPs by considering water stress in the region.
