Non-Revenue Water Reduction in Rural Nakuru County

Nakuru Rural Water and Sanitation Company (NARUWASCO) launched a major initiative to reduce high non-revenue water losses. Serving approximately 1.1 million people in Nakuru County, home to 4.15% of Kenya’s population, NARUWASCO has an average NRW rate of 50%, double the national benchmark of 25%. The project is targeting the Western Region, where NRW levels have reached 75%. NARUWASCO is implementing a series of focused interventions, including systematic leak detection and repairs. These efforts aim to curb physical water losses and enhance system efficiency.

CAPs (Credits Aqua Positive), also known as water credits, are a unit that measures the positive impact of projects on water resources.

1 CAP = 1,000 m³ of water footprint saved

CAP eq, or CAP equivalents, are calculated using the ISO 14046 methodology, which adjusts the value of CAPs by considering water stress in the region.
